NEW BISHOPS ELECTED
On June 27th 2007, the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI accepted the
resignation of Most Rev. James Odongo as the Archbishop of Tororo Archdiocese,
and has appointed as his successor, Rt. Rev. Denis Kiwanuka Lote, who, until his
appointment, has been the ordinary of Kotido diocese.
The Holy Father has also accepted the resignation of Rt. Rev. Erasmus Wandera as
Bishop of Soroti Diocese, and has appointed Rev. Msgr. Emmanuel Obbo, AJ
currently the Rector of Nadiket Minor Seminary in Moroto diocese as his
successor.
Archbishop elect Denis Kiwanuka, was born on March 25th, 1938 in Pallisa. He had
his studies at Nagongera and Nyenga minor seminaries before he joined St. Mary's
Ggaba National Seminary for his Philosophical and Theological studies. He was
ordained a priest on December 19th 1965.
He was then appointed as Assistant Parish Priest in Muyembe, Butebo, Bududa and
Kwapa parishes between 1966 and 1969. In 1969-1972 he was appointed teacher in
the Minor Seminary of Nagongera.
In 1972-1974 he obtained a Masters in Theology at the "Maryknoll" Theology
school, New York University and a Masters in the Science of Education at Fordam
University.
In 1974-1991, he served as the Vicar General of Tororo Diocese. He was appointed
the first Bishop of Kotido diocese.
MONSIGNOR EMMANUEL OBBO
Msgr. Emmanuel Obbo, AJ was born in Nagongera Parish (Tororo) on October 7th,
1952 to Pius Othieno and Pauline Awor, both deceased.
He attended local primary schools: Nagoke Sub-grade School, Soni Kainja P.S. and
Kirewa P.S. Thereafter, he attended East African Commercial and Secondary
School, Kampala obtaining the East Africa Certificate of Education, before
attending the Centre for Continuing Education, Makerere University, obtaining
'Pitman' Certificates (Elementary and Intermediate) in Book Keeping.
In 1977 he joined the Minor Seminary of the Apostles of Jesus, Nadiket (Moroto).
In 1979 he was admitted to First Vows in the institute of the Apostles of Jesus.
In 1980-1982 he studied Philosophy and in 1982-1986 studied Theology at the
Philosophy and Theological Schools of the Apostles of Jesus in Nairobi, Kenya.
He was ordained a priest on December 13th, 1985 in Nagongera Parish. In
1986-1987 he was appointed Assistant Master of Novices at the Apostles of Jesus
Novitiate in Moroto.
In 1988-1991, he studied Philosophy at the Pontifical Urban University, Rome
obtaining his Licenciate and Doctorate. "The title of his dissertation was;
Metaphyiscal Elements in Wittginstein's Philosophy: The Urge towards the
Mystical"
In 1992-1994 he was appointed Rector of the Philosophy school of the Apostles of
Jesus, Nairobi. In 1993-1999, he became the Vicar General and Pastoral
Coordinator of the Institute of the Apostles of Jesus. In 1999-2002 he was the
Assistant for Social Communications to the General Superior of the Apostles of
Jesus. In 2003 to date he is the Rector of the Apostles of Jesus Minor Seminary,
Nadiket in Moroto Diocese.
