Sad News: Rev. Father Venansio Opoka died on Saturday February 24th, 2007.

Welcome to the Archdiocese of Gulu. Welcome to the Website of the Archdiocese of Gulu - Uganda. The Archdiocese of Gulu is located in Northern Uganda, and covers the three civil administrative districts of Gulu, Kitgum and Pader. It spans an area of about 27,946 sq km with a population of about 900,000 people. The Archdiocese is bordered by the following dioceses: Kotido in the East and North-East, Lira in the South- East, Hoima in South-West, Nebbi in the West, Arua in the North-West, and the Diocese of Torit (Sudan) in the North.

The Central Administrative Offices of the Archdiocese of Gulu are located 3 kilometres (about 2 miles) off of Juba Road from Gulu town.

Religious Communities

Justice and Peace

The quest for peace has a prominent place in the ministry of the Archdiocese of Gulu, given that peace has eluded the people in Northern Uganda for more than two decades. The humanitarian crisis that has resulted continues to challenge the pastoral ministry of the Archdiocese. In a special way, the Justice and Peace Commission of the Archdiocese, together with CARITAS Gulu coordinate the efforts of the Archdiocese in search for peace. Witness of the Martyrs

The Archdiocese of Gulu has been blessed with many witnesses to the faith. In a special way, it has been honored by the Beatification of two of our Martyrs: Daudi Okelo and Jildo Irwa. These two natives of the Archdiocese of Gulu add the number of the martyrs of Uganda to twenty four.
